I believe there’s an emerging trend outside. This emerging trend is “Wet”.

So I flew in this weekend. Arrived on Friday. Packed lots of stuff, as per usual, couldn’t fit everything in my hand luggage, so left: Canon EOS 40D body + 16GB CF card Sony Handycam HDR-TGE3 + 8GB MemoryStick Pro German mobile Steve’s laptop power supply Liam’s chocolates from mum and 6 bottles of beer in my hold luggage. Along with some clothes and other stuff. I always figure that although you’re not supposed to put valuables in the hold, it’s a single flight of 1.5 hours and I get it back at the end of it, as long as stuff’s wrapped carefully then it’ll not break, right? I got to Heathrow to discover my baggage had disappeared. Was told that it was on the wrong flight when I enquired, and that it’d be delivered to me at home yesterday (Saturday). Up Saturday morning, called Lufthansa, was told that my luggage had arrived and that it was awaiting the courier and I’d be texted when it was due to be delivered. Or I could call back in an hour and get a more thorough answer. So I called back in an hour and was told that it was still awaiting collection. Almost immediately after this, I was called by someone who told me that the flight it was on had been cancelled and that it’d likely turn up Sunday. Unhappy about this I talked to them and they got it on a flight landing at 9:30pm that night. I told them I’d head to the airport and pick it up, so as not to have to waste an entire Sunday too. Got bag. No cameras, power supply, phone, etc. The two zips on the front had been sealed by customs, the one opening the main area of the bag hadn’t (or it had been removed). About a grand’s worth of stuff stolen, including some company property. Lufthansa claim no responsibility for valuables in hold luggage... This is slightly shit of them, they really should do. Their mistake got it sent on the wrong aircraft (or someone at the airport nicked the stuff and put it on the wrong aircraft to throw people off the scent). Acceptable risk to me: 1.5hr flight with camera in bag in hold. Unacceptable risk to me: leaving bag unattended overnight in Belgrade airport. I made the best decision I could with the facts I had and they changed the parameters. Going to write to them (I was given a fax number? How absurd is that? Like most people have a fax...) and demand they sort it. Guessing it’ll fall on deaf ears though... Slightly very pissed off. Glad I took all the pictures off the camera before travelling.

Swaying to the sound of the Portishead

I don’t think I want to try Cromer to Berlin in one day ever again. Started travelling at 8:30am, finished at 11pm. Urgh! We went to Stiffkey with the Norwich lot, a weekend of sun, sea and camping. Pics are here Very chilled out. Slightly knackered now though. Think I need a bigger tent and/or a small airbed ; ) A small shoutout has to go to XKCD this week for being really quite silly. For a change ; ) The story of Nathan and his electric skateboard starts here and continues all week. www.xkcd.com/577/ Scary how the stick man’s hair is SO Nathan... Raining in Berlin, they should really do something about that and start the sun up again. It’s like being back in (a better run) England... Seeing Kronos Quartet at the Barbican on Sunday, that should be amazing, although it’ll cost me a 5:30am start on Monday to get my plane, which is a slight embuggerance. Busy at work, trying to pull everything together by the end of this week, slowly running out of time and panicking a little. Probably going to be working next weekend too, which sucks a bit, but still. Day 6 without cigarettes and I don’t really feel like killing anyone yet. Which is a good thing, IMHO. Bought a Time Capsule as I think I might have to return this Mac and get a new one under warranty. The screen’s coming apart, which is problematic as I’m in Berlin and use it for work. Not sure what I should do, might develop for a bit on Win 7 (which is shiny, just thought I’d mention) for work and give the Mac a rest whilst I get her fixed. Slightly annoyed by this as I bought the Mac (New Macbook Pro 15" aluminium unibody jobby) and paid lots for it so it’d last me a while. It hasn’t even managed 6 months yet. Grr! Time Capsule talks to my rabbit, but only just. Which is nice... Justin talks of a picnic in Greenwich on Sunday. Anyone else fancy it? Could be lovely!
