Freakcity

About us

This site was set up in 2003 by a loose group of people, primarily from IRC and a website called OutintheUK, who wanted something less controlled and possibly a bit different. Scott did almost all of the development work and remains the bloke that does stuff to the site, however, he doesn't in any way shape or form "run" the site, he just builds it.

The idea is that we're all adults and big enough to (mis)behave however we want, so why impose rules? No-one's been banned so far, everyone seems to get on, mostly it works well.

The site will always be free, if it reaches a point where it becomes costly to maintain, there are plans to deal with this. One of the aims in setting up the site was to not force people to either pay or have to deal with a substandard product. Everyone is equal, everything is available for all.

It can be a bit tricky to fit in here, but be chatty and I'm sure everyone will be chatty back and make you feel at home. It is the nature of such communities online that they can be a little cliquey.
This site isn't primarily for any particular group of people, but has a high percentage of gay people and a high percentage of geeks. If this bothers you, either stay away, or join and attempt to be enlightened.

The site

The site is simple to use. It offers a profile (www.freakcity.net/username), a journal, events, forums, some fun toys such as the quotebot, the dick (dictionary), the links. It's being expanded all the time and all suggestions are greatfully received. If you get stuck on any part of the site there's a help section which is fairly comprehensive, failing that, there's always people online who can help out.

Most of the conversation happens in the IRC chatroom - if you get stuck, you can go to "chat" on the menu and ask someone in there to help.

You got nothing to lose by joining, we won't sell your email address/details, we won't spam you with special offers, we'll just let you enjoy the simplicity of the site
